Thanks to Malcolm (left) we were allowed to photo this gate in the grounds of his guest house at Thornybank, just north of kendal. Water is piped from windermere for treatment at Watchgate W.W. and then into the Thirlmere Aq

It appears thar concrete stiles are sometimes used instead of gates,This one just North of Kendal.There was no other access to the field in which it was located other than via a gate.
